Course Duration: Certificate IV in Community Pharmacy is composed of 28 weeks (560 hours) of face to face sessions which is made up of 2 unequal semesters with a break for holidays. The student is required to complete a minimum of 140 hours of work placement hours in order to complete the workplace tasks. Therefore, Certificate IV in Community Pharmacy has a course duration of a minimum of 7 months however the length of the course will depend on the student’s current skills and abilities, prior experiences and Language, Literacy and Numeracy support required. Nevertheless, a student has up to 18 months to complete the course requirements which includes the face-to-face theory/workbooks and workplace tasks. . |

Overview
Certificate IV in Community Pharmacy is a qualification that reflects the role of skilled senior pharmacy assistants who use sound knowledge of a broad range of pharmacy products and health care support services. Some senior pharmacy assistants may take a lead role in coordinating front of pharmacy business activities. Therefore, depending on the job role, they work under the overall or direct supervision of a pharmacist, and may have team leading or supervisory responsibilities.
Therefore, Certificate IV in Community Pharmacy develops the management skills needed to coordinate pharmacy operations and lead staff, as well as providing specialised advanced skills throughout the pharmacy. Moreover, this qualification provides trainees with the knowledge and skill-sets to further advance their career in community pharmacy where knowledge of key health conditions, products and/or develop new skills in dispensary is built further.
Certificate IV in Community Pharmacy qualification can be used to build on the skills that a pharmacy assistant may have completed as part of their SIR30116 Certificate III in Community Pharmacy, or otherwise trainees whom have relevant industry employment experience as a community pharmacy assistant in a job role that has involved the application of skills and knowledge described in core units of competency from SIR30116 Certificate III in Community Pharmacy, and have a statement of attainment in the unit SIRCIND002 Support the supply of Pharmacy Medicines and Pharmacist Only Medicines.
This qualification is to be undertaken by those pharmacy assistants wishing to operate as a dispensary assistant, retail or front-of-shop manager or specialist pharmacy assistant. Therefore, this qualification will benefit experienced pharmacy assistants who are looking to expand their skills to become a senior pharmacy assistant; to manage particular functions in the pharmacy, manage a range of health categories or to supervise pharmacy staff, or become front-of-shop managers.
Hence, accredited training can help trainees develop management skills and provide specialised support in the pharmacy, while granting them formal recognition of their existing skills.
The Certificate IV in Community Pharmacy is a recognised qualification for a senior pharmacy assistant working in a community pharmacy. This qualification is nationally recognised in all states and territories of Australia.

The student is required to achieve competency in 14 units in order to complete the course.
This course is delivered via workbook and face-to-face classroom sessions, whilst working in a community pharmacy to complete workplace specific tasks. Support and assistance is provided by a qualified trainer throughout the course duration.

Furthermore, the entry requirements to this program is that students are eighteen years of age or older. Students should own or have ready access to a computer and a willingness to learn. It would be assumed students have completed Year 10 at school with sound literacy and numeracy skills.
If the student wishes to discuss this matter further, they are free to contact one of the course advisers. Students will be made aware of the specific skills that underpin the outcomes and performance requirements of the course units to ensure they are capable of demonstrating competence prior to entering the program.
All learners must undertake a language, literacy and numeracy assessment. A LLN test has been developed for this purpose. Students who do not have the required LLN skills will be referred to another provider to further develop their LLN skills so that they can enroll in the course in the next intake.
Access to a practice environment:
The units in this course are designed to be practiced and assessed in the workplace in addition to the classroom theory/assessments. Therefore, access to a practical work placement in a community pharmacy is necessary in order to competently complete the work placement tasks, according to the pharmacy industry standards.
Completion of the Course
Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a state and nationally accredited certificate “SIR40116 – Certificate IV in Community Pharmacy” issued by Eminent College of Education (RTO NO. 45060)
Learners who complete this qualification can progress their career and complete the Certificate IV in Community Pharmacy.

Reasonable Adjustment
There may be times and situations in which a student may require ‘reasonable adjustment’ of the training and assessment methods implemented by the RTO to meet their specific individual needs. These individual student needs may include (but not limited to):
- Disability
- Temporary or permanent injury (i.e. back injury, broken leg/arm)
- Sight or hearing impairments
Reasonable adjustments to the way in which evidence of performance is gathered (e.g. in terms of the information to be provided to the candidate and the type of evidence to be collected from the candidate) can only occur where the adjustments do not alter the expected performance standards for learning and assessment.
The reasonable adjustments to the training and assessment process may include a variety of modifications to the methods of delivery and assessment to assist the student to undertake the course. The adjustments may include actions such as:
- assistance in the form of the training location to allow easier access
- accessing relevant equipment or aids to assist the student
- adjustments to the assessment methods to cater for any special needs (without effecting the integrity of the outcome)
Where a student requests or is identified as requiring reasonable adjustment to the training and assessment process a detailed training and assessment plan including timetables, notes regarding the required adjustments, and any related communications regarding the adjustments must be maintained in the students file.
