About Course


Eminent College of Education will offer training and assessment for individuals intending to work within the construction industry who are:

• New employees within the Resources and Infrastructure Industry wishing to gain skills and knowledge and seeking a formal recognition

This course prepares you to work in job roles such as

• Civil construction
• Demolition / Renovating work
• Building / Housing industry
• Mining industry
• Dogman / Rigger / Scaffolder
• Cable hauling
• Construction labourers

Course Description

This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work. The unit requires the person to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.

This unit meets the general construction induction training requirements of:

Part 1.1 Definitions and Part 6.5 of the Model Work Health and Safety Regulations;

Division 11 of Part 3 of the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996 for Western Australia; and

Division 3 of Part 5.1 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2007 for Victoria.

This program covers the requirements needed to obtain a Statement of Attainment in CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry. Learners who successfully complete this Unit will be able to work safely in the construction industry and meet the competency eligibility requirements to apply for and hold a White Card.


WorkSafe Victoria requires that all people performing construction work or working in a construction area provide proof to an employer that they have completed a general WHS construction induction for the industry. A primary item of proof is the Construction Induction Card (White Card) – CPCCWHS1001 Unit of Competency.

Training Pathway: There are no formal pathways for this course.  However the unit covered provide credits toward a number of Certificate II or III qualifications in the Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package.

Delivery and Assessment Arrangements

Delivery modes: Delivery consists of both theory and practical components whereby all delivery takes place in the classroom.

All training will take place at:

Unless required at another venue where the Director will inspect training venues prior to conducting training sessions to ensure that the venues are suitable with adequate resources to deliver training in.

Eminent College of Education offers safe, compliant and comfortable training facilities. Our training centres simulate real workplaces with all training equipment meeting legislative requirements, relevant Australian Standards and the requirements of the unit(s) of competency and/or license requirements. The training plant and equipment reflects industry and best practice requirements.

Entry Requirements

There are no pre-requisites for this unit.

As a minimum, participants must have adequate English language literacy and numeracy skills to form an accurate written report.

It is important to note that this Work Safely in the Construction Industry course requires a level of physical ability to correctly demonstrate fitting into the PPE listed below:

• Eye protection
• Hearing protection
• Hard hat
• High visibility retro reflective vest.

If your health or fitness restricts you from performing physical activities associated with this program, you will not be able to complete this course.

Reasonable Adjustment

There may be times and situations in which a student may require ‘reasonable adjustment’ of the training and assessment methods implemented by the RTO to meet their specific individual needs. These individual student needs may include (but not limited to):

  • Disability
  • Temporary or permanent injury (i.e. back injury, broken leg/arm)
  • Sight or hearing impairments


Reasonable adjustments to the way in which evidence of performance is gathered (e.g. in terms of the information to be provided to the candidate and the type of evidence to be collected from the candidate) can only occur where the adjustments do not alter the expected performance standards for learning and assessment.


The reasonable adjustments to the training and assessment process may include a variety of modifications to the methods of delivery and assessment to assist the student to undertake the course. The adjustments may include actions such as:

  • assistance in the form of the training location to allow easier access
  • accessing relevant equipment or aids to assist the student
  • adjustments to the assessment methods to cater for any special needs (without effecting the integrity of the outcome)


Where a student requests or is identified as requiring reasonable adjustment to the training and assessment process a detailed training and assessment plan including timetables, notes regarding the required adjustments, and any related communications regarding the adjustments must be maintained in the students file.

Great starting point for learning Swift. If you have never programmed, or never used Swift it is a great place to start.
